Peaceful afternoon 70s Duke finally did the grassy field w/o Issues

Peaceful afternoon



Got the yummy dewormer done and Duke likes the green apple taste, he got it all over his mouth, leg and hay.  I wanted for him to have it mostly off him before I got his tack together and got him ready to go. I never know how hes going to be on the field and if hes going to listen or toss his head.  I got hm sprayed down very well so I know he cant toss his head that bugs are getting him.  We got out there and he wanted to go to the grassy side of the field. 
I put him on the road first.  This is a new method for me. Sorto of lay down the law that we are not going to graze.  He walked along, there was a bike person on the Greenwood road that I wanted to avoid. Th elady that I thought was Sarah but I think she rides Muke was riding and doing stuff in the areana.   I slowly and relaxed while tacking Duke up in the stall.  I likehim to eat while I brush him out.  I just love it.  I put tons of green cleaner on his tail so that jerky Doc wont eat it.  Its getting crappy now.  Duke's tail is the most beautiful.  Im going to make up the spice treatment.  Ha ha


Anyway he walked pretty well til Bonnies edge then I was going to turn him around.  In my head I would have loved to go to the left and behind the house there and cut into the woods and been in the other big field that I love so much.  But something is better than nothing.  We went into the field.  He was really good.  He walked past Bonnies and I gave him a mint,  I was happy then as I was going to relax and may do a trot, he stole the grass.  Hes a stinker.
I was ok because we made it so far and then I got on him and didn't steal any more all the way back.  I put the go pro on the  horn, It was an ok idea, but next time I want to place it another area.  It was crooked and not as good as on the helmet like I like. 


He did great and we went back he got about a mile and Im looking forward to getting more miles on him in the fall.  Next winter should be amazing.

Brought cross ties Kristin McMahon put them up she said they were great and she really appreciated them.

Brushed out Duke he looked great I so worried about his tail being bitten by that horse of Scottis

Short ride on road he was alittel bit grumpy but we worked it out, now hes on the pavement he wants to go n the grass in the fields.this will make it much easier for me if he kinda begs to go on grass

Really enjoy peppermint I can get him to go his walking and I give him a secret treat on the ride

Great mounting with. Mints I have been jumping up quicker and he hasn't been badkly jumping away

2017 Dentist Visit - very different

Hot as usual it sthe day before the 4th of July. I was there at 9am of course he didn't do my horse until past 11am.  He was a friendly enough buy, just a bit syncial and loves his own jokes.  Not bad.  He was very aware of everyone and everything going on while he was focused on the dentistry too. But that was not what was so amazing bout him, he uses his own god given tools to work with the horses.  No power tools, no sedatives, no mouth brace. He sticks his whole hand into Dukes mouth and all of the horses mouths to get this job done.  Well after the whole entired other side was done they finallyl went over ot me.  Babe got special service because she is so old and sweet.

Wayne said that Duke's back mohlars had been ground down too much.  It was going to cause him a problem forever.  Someone who had him dentist seemed to be the devil who did it.  That's why he drops hay, loses weight and is grumpy about his bit.  Poor sweet guy.  It seems soon he will b e limited to what he can eat.  It may hve been why he coliced last year, couldn't chew up the new hay.  Who knows anyway he will be getting less rough age to eat soon so he can put some weight on gain.

 

Krystyns Birthday Party

What a nice night, Bob put up my sign and we had a great BBQ with the family and the rest of the gang at the barn.  I got to take Duke out after a while and walk him plus get some grass in him.
Jess brushed out Babe and then let her go into the field.  Duke and her grazed and it was good.  Duke seems like he really needs his teeth done.  Im glad the dentist is coming on Monday.

Only Sunday wiht Duke, great visit

Went out to get my sweet guy and he was chillin in the paddock with that jerk Doc.  Duke speaks to me when I get to his gate and I like that a lot.  It was threatening it may rain later.  It ended up pouring later Sunday after I left.
I loved going in with Duke and brushing him out in the stall.  He was eating the hay so aggressively. I got him out of his paddock and was very strict about keeping him from eating grass with out permission. Its that time again.  He just loves to steal it.  It makes him act like a criminal when he steals it. 
the training for jumping on Duke has been going great.  When I had him brushed out I tacked him quick in the tie backs.  It was easy to get his saddle on with the lightweight pad.  I don't have to over tack him like I did at Bobbys.  Hes a different guy now.
I had it all really.  I tacked him and went into the arena.  I love wearing the rope reins Imade.
 He looks great with them.


Also he had a shower where I sprayed him off good from top to bottom.  It was hot out and I thought it had been so long I wanted to cool him down after our very short walk.  He was ok with it.  I got him out and got the hose. As I went around and around with him, I saw that he was thinking it was too cold. So I washed him as he stood and then I brought him over to the paddock.  That little horse of Scottis is not a nice horse.  When I was walking away I saw that duke wanted to dig a bit and maybe roll.  Hes so cute. when he dropped to his knee that jerky horse Dusty came over to his face and made a back kick into his face as he quickly got up.  I think that horse sucks.  I don't like him. I want to have Duke moved to another paddock where he can have fun together rnot have some small jerk that Duke could crush act like a non "bro" to him.  Duke loves friends.  This is not a friend.
