Bruno is great!

Sunday I decided that I should go on another ride with my buddy Colleen. She was so about it. I had to meet her there this trip. I was barely on time but made it. The ride was huge and I was one of the last ones on a horse, Tulsa, Hershey, Duke Oreo all my favs were already mounted. Colleen was lucky enough to get one of our favorite horses from last year, Horsey Mumps or as the farm refers to him, Boger. He is too pretty for that name.

I thought there may not even be a horse for me. Sheila came around the corner and she had Bruno. I was excited. He was amazing. So friendly and sweet. It was a great ride. My stirrups are tight now days and its been a better balance during the ride. He was great. Sheila asked me to come up front with Colleen at the beginning of the ride. I took Bruno and lead him to the front. He loved it. It was a huge ride I think 20 or so. Bobbys was smiling about the amount of people. I found the people on the ride very interesting. There was a sweet young couple and the man rode Domino. He loved his ride she was very happy I think on Blue but Im not sure. Well The ride was good short trots but fun. Colleen said that Horsey Mumps was a wonderful ride very cooperative. Sheila was totally run down from a wicked busy day. almost all the horses tacked out for each ride. Bruno was such a good ride Im hoping to ride him again soon. I took some pics of him and Colleen took some of Bruno and me. While posing with him he almost hugs me. I think he loves people. He is usually a guide so he likes to think Im a guide too. I liked it.

Took work off for a trail ride with Sara, Sheila, Cedric, Duchess & Tobey

Last Friday I was lucky enough to hang out with Sara at work and then go for a trail ride at Bobby's Ranch at 2pm. The weather was terrible and when I called young Bobby said the trails were rough. It was pouring it didnt look like we would have a trail ride and I was getting sad. At lunchtime we met Rob, Steve and went to GameStop picked up the new game, Child of Eden.
Sara and I had decided to go into the MFA instead. Just to make sure I called in to see if the trails were not flooded and they said it was just barely misting and the roads were kinda dry. We decided to ride and go to MFA on Saturday.
We got there and wore our coats. It was only Sara, Sheila and I. I rode Duchess she was amazing. Sara rode Cedric and she looked very strong on him. The little tail that Cedric has is short so the bugs in the woods sure made him busy flipping it around to shew the bugs. Duchess was so large her trot was difficult for me to keep track because the rythym was good then she would trade up and change the pace. She slipped a couple times and I found it amazing. She is so large. Sheila rode Toby (hes a sweet little horse) and took us down a long trot at the end that was one of the longest trots I have ever been on I loved it. It was located near of the end of the trail when we usually take a right, sheila had us go straight down a long stretch of trail and then we were still trotting when it took a corner. Sara was happy to finally get to trot. On her lesson being in the barn the trotting is limited. Sheila really did a great job showing Sara an exciting ride. It was great having a ride with just the three of us. Its worth going out of weekend for a trail ride.

Sara at the Ranch - Midnight

Last week I was so happy to finally go to Bobby's Ranch with my niece Sara. I had been looking forward to spending some time together and going with Sara to hang around at the farm. The first day we had scheduled was a small lesson. It was a crazy day, I had worked 1/2 a day and went up to NH to meet her Dad and also to pick up a little kitty for my friend Steve from Sara. We got the kitty and raced home for the lesson and a quick trip to the Vet too.
The lesson was nice, it was in the barn and Sara did great. She rode on Midnight and she looked wonderful as she rode. Sheila said that Sara did great. Midnight is a beautiful horse that was very well behaved, until the very end of the lesson. Sara said that he began to not listen to her. I was glad that she was able to do good with Midnight. As she was in the lesson it was pouring out and there were horses tacked up ready for a ride. I went over to say hi to Hershey and he let out a big sigh and stomped his foot. He was getting anxious to do something even in the rain. He looked sweet but was getting impatient with the rain and waiting to go out on the trail. After the lesson Sara and I said hi to the goats and jumped in the car to go to the Vet with the little kitty and Steve. After all that we decided to get take out supper. It was fun. I'll upload some pictures. That was Thursday. Friday was even better.

Hershey, Colleen, Jewel and I took a trot in the rain

Its always pretty cool to go to Bobby's Ranch for a ride. Colleen and I have been seeing the Farm's Deer family on the driveway as we drive out everytime. As Bobby said today, "Its a pretty special place". He was telling us that he has a little deer at his house at the top of the hill that sits under a tree and waits for its Mom. Id say animals tickled-him-pink. I like him. Today He took a walk with Colleen and I down the hill to see if the family of deer were hanging out around the stream. It looked like they may have been sitting in the grass or under the tree. He also shared how the farm was 23 acres, over 60 horses, 39 years old. He said he started the farm as a summer vacation for his children. I think it would be pretty special to be his children. Today he also spoke of Brenda and his home on the hill. Brenda takes care of the animals, buffalo, chickens, geese, mini horses, pony, donkeys, dogs, and many more.
The ride was amazing. Hershey was like he just got up on a Monday but I like him like he is. He's a big guy. I think I love to ride him. I didnt intend to like him at all. I imagined I would ride him until I could ride Tulsa more often. I havent ridden Tulsa since April.
Today's ride was with the guide Sally, she is new for Colleen and I but it was great to get to know her. She is living in New Orleans in school but here for the summer. She has a horse called cricket and he is in a barn in Dunstable. Sally told us that Cricket got into trouble at Bobbys Ranch so that she keeps him at another barn where hes been on good behavior.
The farm animals were all in stalls today. The sheep and the donkeys were in the horse stalls and they had to be kicked out to let the horses in for their first ride of the day. It was funny. I liked today because there was a group of kids/girls that were waiting for a trail ride. They came plenty early and were watching all the horses in the barn getting ready for a ride. They didnt notice any of the sprinkling rain at all. The girls had a great attitude and were so happy on the trails. The only ones trotting today were Colleen and I. I like it that way. We didnt do extra trots that ok with me but I do love when we can do 5. Today it was like maybe 3. Although the picture in this post are a beautiful day, it was raining this morning and it made the trail ride pretty cool. The trails reminded me of a day at camp when I was a kid, buggy, wet trees, cold but still has a beautiful rain smell and a coolness that you can dress for with coats and hoods. The guides wore the duster coats and now want one for work.

Hershey is a beautiful draft horse at Bobby's

Hershey is a special horse to me. He has a short thick tail that isnt long enough to shew the biting bugs on the trails. His coat is so beautiful even when he has hay all over his head and body he still has a beautiful shiny fur. His hair falls down over his eyes like no other horse. They say he rides like a cadilac. He's the best ride in the stalls. I think it is especially because of his huge size while you are riding you feel a safe feeling. Hershey seems to hang out with the bad boy horse Domino. I thought they may try to compete but when I see them hanging out Hershey is Domino's buddy. I think its fun to have a buddy so I like to think they have fun together.

Duke & Blue 9am first ride with Duke

This journey was different than the rest, be had breakfast at the Bickford's on the corner of the road to Bobby's Ranch. Colleen was so happy. I met her at her house at about 740 and we were able to get to Bickford's and have some food. I had toast, poached egg, coffee and juice. She had some eggs, tea, home fries and some sort of meat.
The ride consisted of Colleen the little girl and myself. Again the little girl is not very savy in horse control and the poor little horse does it's best to understand all of her wrong signals. Aside from that, Beautiful ride. As a matter of fact this ride was exceptional. I had my buddy Duke, I think the stirrups were to lose because I had great trots but was unable to control my form very well. Very exciting but next time Im going to have it tighter. Duke was on early and I jumped at the chance to ride him. He thought he may be running the ride but he had to go last. He hates that. Blue the girl Katy, said does great with Duke behind him to push em. Sure enough they did great. We took a new beautiful trail with lots of things we hadnt seen before such as crossing brooks and some conservation land. Id like to go hiking down a few of those trails from another access. Anyway great ride, lots of long trots. We stayed at the farm for about 50 minutes bonding with the animals. I loved it.
Ok I better take a shower. Upload pics later.
The top picture is one of Duke when he came out of his stall. Last week Duke didnt come out once, he ate and ate for about 45min. So hungry. hes cute.
