Saturday finally no rush with Beau, warmer temps, less hazardous ice

 So slippery at the barn, I brought the sand so I could sand the areas around my car space and Patti's.  We both took some sand from my truck in cups and spread it around.

The horses need to only get out in the bottom paddocks because the ice going up the path to the top of the hill is all ice, the back barn sliding door is frozen shut.

Beau was on the cross ties, with his massage pad and he stood there for about 25 minutes without complaining. Patti was there when I got there, she had Sienna on the ties, her hoof was tattered on the edges. Patti said that Krystyn said he was coming to help, later on Jack the farrier came and fixed up the hoof and left in no time.

When I got the bandana and treats, brought Beau out to the arena. He did fgood for a while, we did 3 back up sets of 10 each.

• In the paddock
• Working with Beau in the paddock is my new favorite thing. we spend time together. Its sort of rocky but still is ok. 
• he does his picking up his hoof so good. Although the back leg is a really hard kick out, that I dont appreciate at all.  I keep my head away from him when I asked him to pick it up. He can pick it up quickly and also kick out and stomp hard.
• Also I love to take off his blanket, brush him out nice and soft and then then let him chill out inn the sun or if we go into the arena, roll in the dirt so he can feel his back on the dirt, then he runs off farting as usual.
• I brought up some hay for them, no one had hay just like the week before so I grabbed a ton of hay and gave everyone that didnt have hay but espeically brought a ton to Beau, he was happy.
• Hes doing great with his bandana trick, its really good when he has an apple treat in the bandana, he just starts chewing on the bandana and gets the apple flavor from him.
• I do like doing workouts in his paddock. Its really nice and we walk around. In the arena he goes cxrazy but in his paddock hes very good.

• Feb 15th
• walked outside so icy it was a sheet of glare ice all over the farm. 
• Found out that Beau ripped his blanket apart when he crashed the gate and ran off on Krystyn earlier this week. 
• Beau I brought outside we walked around in the brown slightly sanded ice he was fine he stepped with his brand new shoes on the slick ice and did a cartoon animation slip of all his hoofs, so funny. Krystyn pulled up just as he was doing it. Back to the safe area, we just went back over to the front of the barn, walked aorund and then back into the barn.
• The door on the arena was frozen open so I did not let him do a crazy run, hes just not a good boy with me yet. we walked alittle and back on the cross ties
• We did his massage pad for maybe 25 minutes, he hasnt lasted the full 30 minutes all all this year.
• Just as I was leaving, I went into the office to check on stuff, I pulled open his supplemennt drawer and it was empty, I forogot to do 2 weeks last week.  I grabbed all the supplements, in the bag made sure I had cosaquin, magnesium and the horse shine ready. Make a weeks supple and will make the 2 weeks next weekend.

Sunday, cold windy only worked up at the paddock hay and snacks for horses

 The other horses were so bummed because they had no hay.

I put grabbed some hay and gave it out to all the horses that were empty.

Worked with Beau in the paddock, Im getting good at climbing the fence quickly and jumping down.

Took off his blanket, hes better listener when Im doing it and putting it back on.

I brushed him out for a while, brushed his face, held him it was a nice day.

His neighbor in the paddock nnext to him watches me, I guess his name is Riley. Hes a big red.

I walked the way back-ups with him, 
He did the bandana tricks and almost picked it up
He picked up his feet perfectly when I tapped him. 

Super cute when he was eating hay.

His water was totally frozen and I thought he should have some, so I took the large broken ice plates out and brought the little green bucket full of water up to help top off his water bucket.

Monday it was Martin Luther King day

 Really there to change the blankets and give some treats

its going to be the worst week in 2 winters, temps in the single digits and below zero

I had to get over there and change his blanket

I bought the blanket that I had borrowed last year from Krystyn the green one, its dirty but still warm and didnt seem to old but I later found that it had a broken strap on the back.

It wont matter too much.

I had made some warm oatmeal for Sienna and for Beau, the kids seemed to like it.

None of the horses in that day had hay so I put hay in all of the stalls for the hungry horses.

That girl Amanda came and she was kinda a total jerk snob I was feeding all the horses when she got there and she acts like a jerk when she walks in with some little girl she looks like she is letting use her horse but Im thinkinng she is charging her or working as a trainner on their proprty, wel that is what Krystyn said, she seeemed ok with it.

NO one around the whole time high 20s and windy

 It was sunny but so cold out

The horses were out and they hadnt been out in a while

I had plans to give everyone snacks, 3 apples, 1 for Muke, 1 for Dusty, 1 for Beau and 2 apple sauces for Beau and Sienna.

As soon as I got into the farm, pulled up to the hay barn, the kitties came around the corner, the yellow tiger came and looked at me. They were so cute they are hungry.

I brought the pate and the shredded meow mix my grand kitties like.

I had to thaw out the pate because it was at Beau's stall so I gave them the Meow Mix right away. They were so cute they came out to eat. I put some hot water in the bathroom sink and put the 2 containners of Meow Mix into the water to melt.

I went up to his paddock, he needed hay. I talked to hm a bit than went back and did some chores and then grabbed his supplements. My plan was to sit with him maybe on a snow bank and make his supplemennt bags.

The blanket that I bought from Krystyn last week was missinng a back belt, but not sure we need it. 
Beau rolled after he saw I was sitting down relaxing while he was in his paddock.

The wind blew pretty cold.

Short but good visit Saturday

 High level points:

It was a Saturday and there were not too cold, even the water was able to be dumped and fresh put into the buckets.

Hes really responsive to working out with me but I dont like his pushy-ness, 

Thinking of taking back on the treat rewards

Same old out of the gate excitement, makes me uncomfortable

Beau doesnt really seem to like scratches as much as I would like or think. Maybe hes senstive to touch still.

He was Walking backwards perfectly, 

+++ seemed to choke on treats, well the heart ones, nnver get those again.

Brought him in after, the rain started, hes was seemly aggressive in the arena as we walked, both doors were openn and the gates were down. I had to keep him tight on the line. 

He might be a brat

He seemed to nnot did not want to go into stall

Last week when I was bringing him in he got caught on the eye hook today he just rushed into the stall.

I like the days that I can get him to stop and rest and start back

Still I wish he was handling better, still jumply would nver know hes on magnesium.

Sent a pic of Cisco to June, her sister passed away of cancer and she has been super bummed and not over to the barn lately. I know she was wokring out with Cisco and her other horse as a way to help her not feel as sad during her sister's progress into cancer.

Sunday after the snow at the barn

 I was at the barn this weekend, only on Sunday, Saturday was pretty snowy and I didtnt want to be there while the family was still clearing the snow. I know that the horses were going to be in while the clean up was going on. Patti was stuck inn Waltham her sister wasnt coming. 

NOTE: I was talking to Colleen in the hall about Beau, telling her stories that she was laughing about. She asked lots of questionns. Aft4r a wile I talked to her about Beaus background, how he was an Off Track Thorobred and that he had a racing life and then some other type of life completely. Then after a few minnutes I told her that  he had ann issue adn crashed the gate.

She mentioned right away that its from his days racing. I thought about it, how he leans agaist the gate and pushes through. Hes very bolty.
